Tracey has worked for many years within the NGO and academic sectors in Ireland. She has worked with the Irish Peace Institute, Co-operation Ireland and the Centre for International Co-operation on cross-border and cross-community national and international projects. She joined the University of Limerick in 1997, and in 2016 Tracey was appointed to the newly established UL Engage office supporting University/community collaborations through a variety of programmes and projects both at a local and national level. In 2019 she became the Senior Coordinator of the Limerick Inside Out International Practica Programme and is the Senior Coordinator in Ireland for the SLUSIK project.
